Time is a a system of measurement to describe the rate at which things happen. The units of time that humans use are specific to the planet Earth and were based upon the rotation and revolution of the earth. Because people may soon be traveling very far out into space, there needs to be a somewhat standardized space time unit. Think of how screwed up things would be if humans colonized Mars. If they used a time system like we do on Earth, based on the sun and the rotation of the planet, it could get a little confusing communicating between the two planets. Although this might not be a very big problem with humans, it becomes a major problem when communicating with other alien races. Everything we do involves time in one or another. Even radio waves, which would be vital to communications, is base on Earth seconds. Home
